Santana
Francisco Santana’s large scale images of boats moored in shallow waters are masterly explorations of tranquillity and reflection and have won him numerous prizes. His skilful manipulation of colour, in particular his use of a wide spectrum of blues, creates a powerful sense of light which is enhanced by his broad and vigorous brushstrokes.
Though the paintings are ostensibly of boats, the light and movement in the water is key to their impact and appeal. Although from a close viewing they appear almost abstract and loosely composed, from a distance this diffused softness coalesces into strong linear images.
Born in Valencia in 1958, Francisco graduated from the Superior Fine Arts School in Valencia and immediately became a full time artist. His work is exhibited all over the world.
