Diederik Van Apple
Diederik van Apple was born and raised in the Netherlands. As a child he immersed himself in stories and films, often finding it difficult to draw the line between fantasy and reality. From Disney cartoons to cult movies such as Scarface, The Godfather and Pulp Fiction – this was the cultural world that informed the beginnings of his art.
A dedicated traveller, Diederek describes his art as a combination of all that he has seen and learned. He has visited and worked closely with a wide variety of galleries, from the traditional to the avant-garde, and has built a wealth of knowledge concerning techniques, materials, style and of course, other artists. Influenced by Pop Art, he is also a huge admirer of those artists who bring humour and fun into their artworks and defy the accepted conventions, such as Banksy, Andy Warhol and Salvador Dalí. He has also built on his extensive experiences of the lifestyles, art and design and ethos of other cultures around the world.
In 2017 Diederik launched his first collection of digital mixed media artworks, flights of fancy which combined pop culture, imagination and his personal passion for colourful communication. The response from collectors was overwhelming, and he followed up with a series of limited editions which created a huge stir and sold out immediately. In a remarkably short time he had established himself as a creative force to be reckoned with on the European contemporary art scene.
Diederik’s success took him to Ibiza, an island which combines great beauty with youth and vibrancy, and has a reputation as an exciting centre for innovative young artists. This step introduced him to a new artistic community with diverse ideologies and techniques, and it was here that he developed the uniquely communicative style which has become his hallmark. He also began work on one of his most acclaimed series, the Golden Peace Turtles: show stopping gold sculptures of turtles whose shells have been replaced by helmets, each one carrying a message of peace and hope.
Diederik’s work combines a whole array of media, including photographs, aluminium, diamonds and many more unexpected elements. His work has been shown in all over Europe as well as in the Middle East and the USA. Interest in his unique oeuvre is growing worldwide, and he has become known as an intriguing prospect for investment.
